Design guidelines
For preparing your file we recommend using our template.

For preparing your file we recommend using our template. This is the best way to deliver your file perfectly.

Use CMYK as the colour mode.

Prepare your files using CMYK as the colour mode, not RGB. Use colourmode FOGRA39 (ISO Coated v2). If you are unsure of the colour mode of your file, don't worry we can always convert this for you. Keep in mind this can cause the colours to differ from the original file.

Resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Make sure the resolution of the images and graphics in your artwork are at least 300 dpi.

Add 5 mm bleed and keep 3 mm safety margin

During production, there might be a slight cut deviation. To avoid any issues, we recommend the following:

  • Add a 5 mm bleed around all edges of your design.
  • Keep important elements 3 mm away from the edge or folding lines.
  • Avoid using borders or frames on smaller formats like labels or business cards.
Save your files in an editable, print-ready file formats.

Save your files in an editable, print-ready file formats (PDF (1.4 or higher), TIFF, EPS, JPG). Deliver your files in one layer: the background layer.

Check your artwork for overprint.

Make sure no elements in your artwork are set on overprint unless you want this effect in your design. You can read more about overprint in our Help Centre.

Frequently asked questions
Why do we recommend using a white border for playing cards?
  • We recommend using a white border for playing cards because it helps the cards stay looking clean and new for longer.

When people play card games, the cards are shuffled, handled, and moved around a lot. Over time, this causes the edges of the cards to wear out — they might get little scratches, lose some colour, or start to look frayed.

If the card design goes all the way to the edge (called a "full-bleed design"), any tiny damage becomes very easy to see. For example, if the edges are black or red, you’ll quickly notice white scratches showing through as the coloured ink wears off.

But with a white border, those small signs of damage are much harder to see because they match the border colour. That way, the cards still look nice and neat even after lots of use.

It also helps make sure all cards look the same during a game. If one card has more worn edges than the others, players might recognise it — and that’s not fair. White borders help prevent that by keeping all edges looking alike.
